Elementary Language Arts/Reading 
Scholastic’s Literacy Place, a K-6 integrated language arts/reading program will be used as part of our new curriculum cycle. Using a standards based model of instruction, teachers will continue to use this program as the primary tool which provides a balanced approach to language arts instruction. Lessons are standards-based and include reading, writing, listening, and speaking instruction. Multiple experiences with literature, intentional, and sequential instruction in skills is essential.

Secondary Language Arts/Reading
Grades 7-12 has initiated new standards based secondary language arts/reading program. This program offers a literature based language arts anthology that provides an integrated framework for teaching reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It also includes a writing program that promotes a student-centered approach to writing process. The two texts that will be used in the classroom this year are:  McDougal-Littel, Inc. The Language of Literature, Grades 7-12 and Holt, Rinehart, and Winston, Inc. Elements of Writing, Grades 7-12.

Reading Support Class
Read 180 is a new program for Grades 9-12.  It is an intensive reading intervention program designed to meet the needs of students whose reading achievement is below the proficient level.  The program directly addresses individual needs through adaptive and instructional software, high-interest literature and direct instruction in reading skills.
