The general education classroom, supported by supplementary aids and services, is the first place we look when we are determining where special education services can be delivered. Through such services as consultation and co-teaching and the support of a para-educator, the special educator works closely with the general education teacher in providing an appropriate education for students. Accommodations and instructional strategies are developed to enable special needs students to achieve success in the classroom.

When the needs of special education students exceed the resources of the general education classroom, special educators provide instructional services in small group settings in the resource room for part of the day. The goal is to provide students with needed skills and strategies to benefit from the DoDDS curriculum. |
