The Mediterranean District has established a Lending Library, consisting of Assistive Technology, Reference Books, Videos, and Assessment Instruments. The Lending Library was created to provide a variety of resource materials for use by educators. Items found in the Lending Library are available for short-term loan (up two months) to any school within the Mediterranean District. 10 copies of the Assistive Technology Consideration wheel to help Case Study Committees (CSC) make decisions about appropriate assistive technology are available for checkout as outlined below.
The Assistive Technology items found in the Lending Library provide an opportunity for schools to try items or devices and assess their success with individual students.
WHY DO WE HAVE IT? With the reauthorization of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), all students with special needs must be considered for assistive technology. Assistive technology is defined as anything that can help a student achieve the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) goals and to participate more independently within the general education setting.
HOW DO I ACCESS IT? Any trials with assistive technology for students with special needs should be coordinated with the special education teacher. The need for assistive technology consideration is discussed at every IEP meeting by the CSC. Items are checked out for up to two months, often with an option to extend for another quarter unless there is a waiting list for that item
The POC for the Mediterranean Lending Library is located in the Aviano Complex.
Please note: Parents must go through their child's special education teacher in order to borrow items from the Lending Library.

Educators located in the Aviano Complex should make an appointment to view, pick-up and/or return items. For those schools outside the complex, items can be mailed through the Official Mail System. Individuals are fully responsible for the items in their care. Materials and devices MUST be returned promptly according to their due date.
