Connecting with the Mediterranean District Goals:
- "To achieve highest student achievement by focusing on standards-based curriculum, assessment, and instruction where students and teachers are actively engaged in learning using best practices." Support for students with disabilities is provided through increased and appropriate inclusive practices. The regular curriculum includes provisions for adapting material and instruct to meet the needs of individual special education students.
- "To establish school climates and cultures that promote student character development." The school programs and climate encourage students without disabilities to understand and accept their peers with disabilities.
- "To assist schools with the effective and efficient use of resources." Instructional materials and assistive technology are available to meet the needs for students with disabilities to have access to the general education curriculum. the addition of professional and paraprofessional staff to support the areas of assessing and identifying students with disabilities.
- "To provide opportunities for staff development for all employees based on needs and school strategic plans." Professional development is being provided for special educators in the use of general education curriculum materials, as well as use of assistive technology.
- "To focus on strong community connections and partnerships." Information concerning the implementation of the Special Education Initiative has been and will continue to be sent out to the commands through the Superintendent's newsletter. Information will also be sent to the schools to be incorporated into newsletters sent to parents.
