| The military branches provide medically related services (MRS) to space required special education students at all Mediterranean District schools. The MRS team, the Educational, Developmental Intervention Services (EDIS), is typically composed of a clinical psychologist, developmental pediatrician, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and for the 0-3 age population of special needs youngsters, an early intervention teacher and a speech pathologist. Some EDIS teams also have an audiologist. |

| The Early Intervention, Special Education and Medically Related Services in OCONUS Communities, lists the available MRS at all worldwide DoDDS locations. The DoDDS schools in Ankara and Incirlik, Turkey; Gaeta, Livorno and La Maddalena, Italy; and Sevilla, Spain are all level 1 locations. A level 1 location means that only itinerant services are available. Approximately four times a year, the EDIS team makes a scheduled visit. Families with special needs students requiring more extensive services (such as weekly occupational therapy) would not receive a medical clearance to come to these schools. The DoDDS schools in Rota, Spain and Aviano, Vicenza, Naples and Sigonella, Italy have and EDIS team on site; this team can provide greater direct MRS services. |

Early intervention services (EIS) for youngsters, ages 0-3, include evaluation and, if appropriate, an Individual Family service Plan to address assessed developmental delays. The early intervention specialist works closely with the DoDDS special education teacher so that at age 2 years 5 months, a seamless transition from EIS to DoDDS can begin. |
